WYLIE CLAIMS PORSCHE CARERRA CUP GB PRO-AM PODIUM AS SEASON BEGINS

2023 Pro-Am runner-up Ross immediately on the podium at Donington Park

Ross Wylie, from Thornhill, began the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season with a Pro-Am class podium when the season roared in to action in changeable conditions at Donington Park yesterday (28 Apr).

Wylie ultimately claimed third in class in his Glenturret/Tunnock’s supported 911 GT3 entered and prepared by the Toro Verde GT team. The opening race had been delayed by four-hours due to adverse weather conditions and the second race cancelled completely.

Ross eventually started from sixth in the Pro-Am category having held provisional class pole-position around the 1.98-mile, 10-corner “National” circuit.

He mastered the tricky, still slippery track conditions superbly, many cars sliding off the track to bring his Porsche, also supported by local Thornhill sponsors, AL-2 Teknik UK, PyroDry and Carronbridge Sawmill, to a top-result – finishing just three-seconds behind the second-placed car after two Safety Car interruptions.

Rounds 3 and 4 take place at Brands Hatch in Kent over 11-12 May.

“It was good to immediately claim a Pro-Am podium and to get back racing since last October, blowing the cobwebs away.

“Qualifying was frustrating and extremely tight in terms of times throughout the field. I had two laps compromised by a slow car at the final chicane and set my grid time on my third ‘flying’ lap but by then, the tyres had gone off by that stage.

“Examining the timing data after the session my theoretical time would have put me in the top-six, maybe the top-three, but that’s motor racing.

“The weather was terrible with our race massively delayed and our second race cancelled. Conditions were tough, even though it had stopped raining as the track was still very greasy. I’m looking forward to Brands where hopefully I can show my speed.”
