Scottish youngster completes extreme fitness course
Ross Wylie attended “Get Race Fit 2014” along with multiple Formula One Grand Prix race winner Mark Webber last weekend (1-2 March).
The 22-year-old from Thornhill has attended the annual two-day course for the last three years staged at the Porsche Human Performance Centre based at the Silverstone race track in Northamptonshire.
Australian former Grand Prix winner Webber put a small group of young motor racing drivers through their paces along with other activities including seminars, Q&A sessions and practical workshops.
“I had a mega two days training,” confirmed Ross. “It was really cool to return back to the annual event and of course hang out with Mark [Webber].
“The event is a good way to kick start the season. It’s great to measure your fitness levels against some of the other leading up and coming drivers.
“To be ‘race fit’ you need to be the all round athlete in terms of strength, cardio and flexibility, so it’s important to go to these events and learn sports specific exercises.”
Wylie races an Aston Martin Vantage in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship this year.
