Former champion Ross Wylie will return to the British GT Championship after a four-year absence when the Dumfries race ace contests this year’s final round at Silverstone next month (8 Nov).
Ross, who is aiming for his second Porsche Carrera Cup GB victory at Snetterton this weekend (24-25 Oct), will share a GTC-spec Ferrari 488 Challenge car with Lucky Khera and Lee Frost in the three-hour race that also features ex-Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button.
Ross, who won the 2014 GT4 championship and makes his first BGT start since contesting the 2016 season in an Aston Martin GT3, will be contesting the GTC class for the first time for BGT team debutants SImon Green Motorsport
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the guys at SGM for my British GT return at the Silverstone 500,” said Ross. “I haven’t contested the championship since 2016 and am really looking forward to sharing a car with Lucky and Lee. I have never competed in the GTC category before but have plenty of mileage in the 488 Challenge and am very familiar with the Silverstone GP track so it will be interesting to see how we fair against the cars around us.
“But before that race, I’m very much looking forward to Snetterton and racing my Porsche again this weekend. Having won at the previous Thruxton meeting, the most recent races at Silverstone were disappointing due to a mysterious lack of pace but the team and I are confident that we can bounce back at ‘Snett’ where I’ve raced a variety of cars and scored numerous victories. Come rain or shine, I’m out to reward the team with another good result.”
